Upload a Court Document

Attach court orders, motions, pleadings, and other filings directly to a case. (This uses the standard Documents feature — there's no separate court-document tool.)

  1. Open the case and click the Documents tab.
  2. Click Upload Document.
  3. Give it a title (required) — be specific (e.g., "Order of Protection – Aug 2026").
  4. Choose a Document Type (optional but recommended for filings): Court Order, Motion, Pleading, etc.
  5. Add a description if useful.
  6. Attach your file(s) — up to 20 MB each; PDF is strongly recommended for court materials. You can group a filing with its exhibits in one document.
  7. Set who can see it: Private, Professionals Only (excludes the client), My Team (includes the client), or Joint Record (everyone on the case).
  8. Mark Privileged if the document contains attorney work product or privileged content — this blocks supervisor and cross-org access regardless of visibility.
  9. Click Upload Document.

⚠️ Check visibility before saving, and set the Privileged flag at upload — confirm with your administrator whether it can be changed afterward.

Note: Only the uploader can edit or delete a document. To send a final order to the client later, use Share. Signed documents (forms signed inside Sunlight) are read-only and separate from uploaded files.
