How to use the VOCA Wizard

The VOCA Wizard checks your grant flags, data errors, victimizations and services, and lets you fix most problems right on the screen.

The VOCA Wizard finds the gaps that would make your Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) report incomplete, and walks you through fixing them. It's built just for VOCA, so you don't need to run the full Data Review Dashboard. Run it before each VOCA report.

Open the wizard

  • When you click Run Report on the VOCA report, choose Run the Wizard when asked.
  • If you've already run the report, click the VOCA Wizard button at the top of the report screen.

Work through the four checks

  1. Grant: Lists served children who aren't flagged as VOCA. If every child your agency serves is under VOCA, set them all to VOCA. If only some are, set VOCA only for the children who belong in the grant. You can choose VOCA right in the list, without opening each child's record.
  2. Errors: Checks for data problems such as bad dates or closed cases that still have an active volunteer. Fix anything it lists before you report.
  3. Victimizations: Lists cases missing VOCA victimization types or special classifications. Check the boxes that apply for each child, right on the screen.
  4. Services: Lists cases with no VOCA services in your date range. Click View VOCA Services to open the first child, then use the record arrows to move through the whole list. Add the missing services, then click Check Again.

*Tip: Children might show up on this list as missing VOCA Services, but you see VOCA Services on their records. This happens due to your selected date range. Example: You set a date range of 10/1/26 through 12/31/26 and children show up as missing VOCA Services in the wizard. Well, those children might have VOCA services entered between 7/1/26 through 9/30/26, so that is outside of your date range from October through December. This means that those children showed up on the wizard for missing VOCA Services as expected until you (or your volunteers) add VOCA Services between October and December, 2026.

Finish up

When the checks come back clean, choose to restart the wizard, run the VOCA report or click Done.

Tip: Missing services are the most common gap. Ask volunteers and staff to log VOCA services as they happen, so the wizard has less to catch at reporting time. See How do I record VOCA services for a child?
